בבית היו מדברים רק עברית, מי שהוציא מפיו מילה לועזית חוייב לתרום גרוש לקופת קרן קיימת.
במשך הזמן הורגלנו לדבר אך ורק עברית.
אמא ספרה לי כי למדה עברית בזמנו עם מורה פרטי, כנראה כדי שתוכל להתפלל בבית הכנסת.
זכור לי כי מאד אהבתי ללכת לבית הספר העברי.
זכור לי כי המורה וורבנר ששהה בארץ וחזר לגולה נתן לנו "טיפים", עצות והדרכה על מילים וצורת ההשתמשות בהן, מה שנקרא "עברית מדוברת". אנו דברנו בלשון מליצית – תנכית.

The Hebrew Language:

At home we would only speak Hebrew – whoever uttered a foreign word would have to donate one grush [currency?] as charity to Keren Kayemet.  After a while, it felt normal for us to speak only Hebrew.  Mother told me that she learned Hebrew with the teacher Parti, so that she could pray properly in the synagogue.  I remember that I really enjoyed attending the Hebrew School.  I remember that the teacher Werbner, who spent some time in Israel, and she came back and gave us “tips” about the language – she taught us new words and how to use them (even some Hebrew slang), what is now called “Spoken Hebrew”, whereas we originally spoke only “Biblical Hebrew”.
